An independent beginning

Rooted in a place.
Made for people.

Carpathian OS is an independent project by Vali Neagu.
A Romanian identity, and a desktop shaped around everyday life.

The person behind it

A maker’s
point of view.

Vali Neagu builds open-source software and independent products. Carpathian OS brings that work to the desktop: a familiar place to arrange your windows, configure your computer and get on with your day.

The name connects the project to the Carpathians. Its direction is practical: clear controls, a consistent interface and careful attention to the resources a desktop uses.

From the Carpathians, forward

A quieter space
to do more.

A shared curiosity

Another screen.
The same care.

LinPad is Vali’s Linux-on-iPad project. It explores a real Linux desktop with windowed applications, workspaces and familiar desktop themes on a different kind of computer.

Its approach to desktop styles is a source of inspiration for Carpathian OS. Referenced LinPad palettes and procedural wallpaper work inform the theme direction, with their source attribution preserved.

What guides the work

01

Familiar, considered.

Everyday tasks through clear graphical controls. Consistency matters across settings, windows and local tools.

02

Efficiency, measured.

Low resource use and responsive interactions guide development. Published comparisons need evidence from tested systems.

03

Open to inspection.

Explore the implementation, follow experimental releases and share the details that will help improve the desktop.

The next steps, in the open
