Built in the open

A desktop to explore.
A foundation to inspect.

An Alpine Linux base. An original Rust X11 window manager.
The source and experimental releases are on GitHub.

The implementation

Simple roots.
Careful integration.

The original Rust window manager combines master-and-stack tiling with floating windows, workspaces and native window controls. X11 handles the window system, while Alpine provides the operating-system foundation.

Desktop helpers bring together settings, themes, the taskbar calendar, local Reminders and file desktop integration.

v0.1.0-dev.20261010

Development installer

BIOS installation through the installer engine and an installed Rust desktop login have been tested in an isolated VM. The graphical installer questionnaire and other installation configurations still need qualification.

Rendering continuity, hardware support, updates and recovery remain under development. This release is not ready to replace your everyday system.

Design inspiration

Familiar styles.
Honest origins.

LinPad’s desktop themes inform the exploration of familiar visual styles. Referenced era palettes and procedural wallpaper work are declared CC0 in their source; Carpathian OS preserves that attribution and develops its own integration.

The native window manager is original Rust code. Adapted desktop components, dependencies and theme assets retain their respective licenses and notices.
